Vitamin D for Babies

Vitamin D for Babies

Vitamins are essential to keep life rhythmic. Vitamin D helps keep bones strong and healthy by regulating calcium and phosphate levels in children's blood. In addition, this vitamin increases the immunity of the body. Asthmatic children perform various duties including asthma control and prevention.

On the other hand, if there is a deficiency of vitamin D in children's bodies, the bones of the arms, legs, and chest ribs become soft and various deformities occur; It is called rickets. Apart from this, many times the children have pain in their hands and feet, the strength of the flesh decreases, they become tired and lethargic and their risk of various types of infections increases.

Source of vitamin D

Children get vitamin D in two ways. Most vitamin D is produced in our skin by exposure to sunlight. And the rest comes from food, such as Hilsa fish and its eggs, Roopchanda, and tuna. Vitamin D is also available from meat, liver, egg yolk, milk, curd, cheese, ghee, butter, etc. Vitamin D is also found in some vegetables, especially broccoli, mushrooms, almonds, and kale.

Why is there a shortage?

If children don't go out in the sun at all, stay all day indoors, and are deprived of vitamin D-rich foods day after day, then they will become vitamin D deficient. Sometimes liver and kidney disease in children can cause vitamin D deficiency.

What to do to compensate for vitamin D deficiency

To prevent vitamin D deficiency, children should be allowed to spend some time in the sun daily. 15 to 20 minutes in the sun between 11 am and 2 pm at least three days a week can make up for vitamin D deficiency.

To prevent vitamin D deficiency in breastfed babies, the mother and baby should stay in the sun for a while every day.

Every day some vitamin D-rich food should be fed to the child. Since vitamin D is oil-soluble, a little more oil may be added to baby food to ensure it is absorbed well into the blood.

If the child ever talks about pain in the hands and feet, if it is seen that his wrists are swollen or his legs are crooked or the ribs seem to be high, then the doctor should take the necessary tests and take vitamin D and other treatments.
