Treatment For Late Teething
Causes of delayed teething in children
Babies are born with most of their teeth below the gums. The first tooth is usually visible at six months of age. Some children wake up earlier. Some take a year. A couple of months difference is nothing to worry about. The first two teeth are usually in the lower middle, followed by the upper four. Most children have 20 teeth (full set) visible by the age of three.
A child may not have teeth during this period. There are various reasons behind this. If a child does not have any teeth by the age of 18 months, a doctor should be consulted.
Causes of late teething
If the parents or someone in the family has the problem of late teething in childhood, the child can also have it. If there is such a history there is nothing to worry about the child. Wait for some more time.
Babies born before 10 months or with low birth weight may develop teeth late and have enamel defects.
Certain genetic problems such as amelogenesis imperfecta and regional odontodysplasia can cause delayed tooth eruption and affect tooth structure.
Malnutrition, vitamin or mineral deficiency, especially calcium and vitamin-D, can cause this in some children. It may also be associated with Down's syndrome or hypothyroidism.
Baby is not teething?
There are three stages in the cycle of developing baby teeth. First, minerals are deposited to form teeth, teeth grow, then fall out.
Accumulation of minerals in teeth begins in the embryonic stage. Begins mid-gestation i.e. around 14 weeks and continues till 3 years of age for permanent teeth. Lasts up to age 25 for permanent teeth.
Tooth formation begins at the crown, extending towards the root.
The first tooth erupts in the middle jaw (central incisor), later it spreads to both sides. Then the teeth fall out. Teething usually starts at the age of 6 years and continues till the age of 12 years.
Permanent teeth erupt as soon as the temporary teeth fall out, sometimes over a period of 4-5 months. When this teething and teething period alternates, anxiety begins. In fact, the rhythm of his body's development does not match with the growth of baby teeth most of the time.
However, if the baby's teeth do not grow even at the age of 13 months, it can be assumed that it is a little late. Its most common causes are:
* Hypothyroid (lack of thyroid hormone)
* Familial
* Unknown cause
* The main cause of non-eruption of certain teeth is the problem of wisdom teeth - not having an outlet, gingival fibrosis.
Some children may start teething prematurely before the age of 6 years. Its causes are histiocytosis X, cyclic neutropenia, leukemia, trauma.
Again, the color of the teeth may be abnormal from the very beginning. Causes—Nutritional problems, prolonged illness, drug reactions such as tetracycline.
When to consult a doctor
If your baby is more than 15 months old and not teething, a doctor should be consulted. Also look for signs of weight gain, overall developmental delay, lethargy or lethargy.
Many consider late teething to be a sign of intelligence. This is not true at all. Many times, parents get worried because the child's teeth erupt late. Observe the child's behavior and development in the beginning. If you have unusual symptoms such as hoarse crying, constipation or abnormal heartbeat, consult a doctor.
What to do when baby is teething
Baby means soft fluffy cheeks, sweet smile. But usually between six and nine months, baby teeth erupt.
At this time one can see a lot of irritation between them. Many children experience various problems during the period of teething.
Things you can do to reduce such problems:
1. Many children experience pain during teething. Not all children have the same pain tolerance. In that case, if someone has excessive pain, a doctor should be consulted.
2. During this time, the amount of saliva in children increases. It needs to be wiped repeatedly with a thin cotton cloth.
3. Many children become irritable at this time. Their appetite decreases. These are very common problems. However, if there is stomach upset, fever or vomiting, consult a doctor.
4. Biting tendency increases in children during this period. Give a chew toy as advised by the doctor to control it. It will not damage the teeth. You can chill them in the fridge before giving them to the baby. It will make the baby comfortable.
5. Children should be given less sweet foods during the period of teething. Pediatricians have said that it should not be given at all, especially at night.
Signs of teething in children
Must be eagerly waiting to see the sweet smile of your little gem's bubbly teeth? When do children teeth? In most cases, children's first teeth erupt between 6 months of age. However, many babies can start teething before this time (at 3 months) or quite late (at 14 months). It may depend on several factors. For example, at what age did the child's parents get their first teeth when they were young or whether the child was born prematurely.
What are the stages of teething in children?
If you notice, when children's new teeth first emerge, they emerge in pairs, that is, two together. The two middle teeth of the lower jaw erupt first. After 1 month or more, the two middle teeth of the upper molars appear. But there are exceptions. For example, all four teeth are seen growing only on top or by themselves.
There are different types of teeth. Like incisors, molars etc. Teeth erupt at different times depending on the species. For example-
· 6 months: lower middle incisor teeth
· 8 months: Upper middle incisor teeth
· 10 months: Lower and upper lateral incisor teeth
· 14 months: First molar teeth
· 18 months: Canine teeth
· 24 months: Second molar teeth
Now let's know what are the symptoms of teething
1) Babies try to bite anything
During this time, new teeth begin to push or grow under the children's gums. In order to relieve or reduce this stress, children try to bite whatever they can get at hand.
2) Swelling of the gums
A baby's gums may be red and swollen before the new teeth erupt. Sometimes the tip of a new tooth is visible under the gum, with the skin around it swollen.
3) Restlessness of the child increases at night
Generally, children's teeth grow faster at night. At this time, the teeth grow through the jawbone and gums, so the child can be very upset due to the pain.
4) Pulled by the ears
Let's say at the beginning, if the child keeps pulling on the ear, it could be due to ear infection or toothache. Teething causes jaw pain in the baby's mouth, which may radiate to the ear canal. The child may pull his ears to escape from this pain.
5) Change in diet
During this time, there are changes in the eating habits of many children. Babies who eat "solid" foods may be more likely to crave milk or liquids. Because they feel toothache when they eat food. For many children, the opposite is true. They are seen avoiding liquid food and attracted to solid food. Because these foods have to be eaten by biting, as a result, some relief is provided from the pain felt in the baby's teeth due to the eruption of new teeth.
Therefore, if the symptoms are known when the child is teething, it is possible to take better care of the child.
