What is Silicosis?
Silicosis, a respiratory problem caused by fine particles of silica dust in crystals, is a lung related disease. Silica dust may affect the reaction. This leads to the formation of nodules and spots in the lungs. These changes can impair lung function. It usually takes 5 to 20 years for the disease to first appear. Early symptoms include chronic dry cough and shortness of breath. Silicosis becomes more severe over time. However, the problem of silicosis increases due to continuous dust. There is no cure for this disease but some remedies are given to reduce the following symptoms. If a person has any symptoms, they should be diagnosed and treated.
Types of silicosis?
There are three main types of
silicosis.
Acute Silicosis - This type of
patient, after one or two years of exposure to silica, has a gradual increase
in symptoms. This process can be called acute silicosis.
Accelerated - This type of person can be infected for a long time as they come in contact with silica for 5 to 10 years. If left untreated, the symptoms can quickly escalate.
Chronic Silicosis - This type of patient comes in contact with a small amount of silica and the symptoms are due to prolonged exposure. This condition is called chronic silicosis. It is most common and the symptoms are not severe.
The cause of silicosis?
Silicosis occurs as a result of
breathing in the place of dust. It happens over a long period of time.
Silicosis can also occur due to the short duration of more intense exposure.
Silicosis can be caused by lung cancer. Silicosis is more common in people who
work in factories and mills. Engineered (artificial) rocks usually have a high
density of crystalline silica mixed with resin. Workers are examples of a few
industries that are exposed to silica dust.
Such as - Engineered Stone
Manufacturing
Concrete mix and cut.
Sandblasting.
Cut bricks and stones.
Foundry work.
Construction.
Mining and excavation. (Including
metals, stones, aggregates and coal)
Hoof. (Hydraulic fracturing for
natural gas extraction)
Pottery and glass making.
Workers who do all these things are
at higher risk of developing silicosis.
Symptoms of silicosis?
Silicosis is a serious condition
that requires immediate treatment if its symptoms appear, which can lead to a
serious condition if not treated immediately.
Among the early symptoms of silicosis.
Cough.
Lots of coughing.
Problems breathing.
Severe symptoms-
The color of the lips becomes blue.
Fever.
Feeling tired.
Sudden chest pain.
Weight loss.
Leg pain or swelling.
Diagnosis of silicosis?
To test for silicosis, the doctor
first performs a physical examination and asks for symptoms. In addition, they
receive chronic disease history and dietary information. Your doctor may
perform the following investigations to diagnose silicosis.
Broscopy is performed to see the
inside of the lungs.
A CT scan is done to examine the
affected area of the chest.
To diagnose silicosis, the doctor
may remove an X-ray of the lungs.
Breathing tests can be done to find
out the function of the lungs.
Biopsies can be performed by taking
samples of the lung tissues so that the disease can be accurately identified.
Treatment of silicosis?
No exact cure for silicosis has yet
been found. However, the following remedies can be taken to reduce the
symptoms.
If the patient has excess mucus in
the lungs, the doctor may first prescribe some medication to reduce it. With
the help of this medicine the breathing process improves and the difficulty
starts to go away.
In some cases oxygen therapy is
given to the patient to help the patient overcome the lack of oxygen. This
therapy reduces the patient's fatigue and weakness.
In many severe cases, surgery is performed instead of medication. In severe lung conditions, the lungs are replaced with healthy lungs.
However, if you want to avoid these
diseases, you should give up alcohol and smoking addiction. In addition, there
is a possibility of getting TB from this disease. If you have any kind of
problem in your lungs
However, diagnose and treat the disease early.
